NYC, Austin, Miami Eateries to Compete in Veggie Burger Battle

The countdown is on — nine days until the Plant-Based Burger Battle™ comes back for its third annual installment, and this year there’ll be more to eat and drink than ever.

Competitors are rolling in from all over the country to compete for the title of Best Veggie Burger in America. Celebrity judges choose the top winner, and audience members will get to cast a vote for their fave, too — after sampling all the goodies, of course.

Last year’s champ was Miami’s own Love Life Wellness Center. The team created a superfood patty topped with guacamole on a bed of marinated kale, cilantro aioli, shiitake "bacon" bites, and homemade cheddar "cheese" on a sweet-potato bun. As far as the audience favorite, Arlo's of Austin was number one.

In 2015, top Miami chef Todd Erickson (co-founder of GLAM) took home top honors. His creation was a beet, barley, and black bean patty with sweet soy and garlic, pickled English cucumber, scallion, lotus root chips, and spicy mayo, all stacked onto a potato roll. The audience favorite that year was a burger by Charlie Grippo of Fort Lauderdale's Green Bar & Kitchen.

This year’s competitors include American Harvest; Arlo’s (Austin); Chickpea and Olive (NYC); Crate (Miami); Dosha Cafe (Hallandale Beach); Follow Your Heart; Greenbar and Kitchen/Field Roast (Fort Lauderdale); Holi Vegan (Miami); Love Life Cafe/Love Life Wellness Center (Miami); Oumph!; Plant B; Sanctum Cafe (Orlando); Sunshine Burger; and Soul Tavern (Miami).

There’ll be beers on hand from Concrete Brewery, Wynwood Brewing, MIA Beer Company, plus a whole lineup of kombuchas: Angry Booch, Healthade Kombucha, Kombucha 221, Mother Kombucha, Brew Dr Kombucha, and Radiate Kombucha. Plus tunes from The French Horn Collective.

And, new this year, the event is taking place at the Design District's gorgeous, art-adorned Jungle Plaza.

Tickets are $55 each and can be purchased online.
